A GUIDE TO

TRAVELLING IN
The United Kingdom

A culture that has gone on to influence many countries throughout history, while at the same time taking a lot of influences from those same cultures. The United Kingdom shifts between busy and modern cities and quiet and reserved countryside as you travel through it. The difference between asphalt towns and wild heaths can be staggering but you will still be charmed by the people of your homestay in Great Britain.

What skills are in demand?

The British take their education super seriously, and they like to be the best at everything so anything from European languages (French, German, Italian, Spanish) to Scandinavian (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish) to Arabic and Chinese. Practical skills such as basic Gardening or DIY and Cookery skills are also on demand as people in the UK are often very proud of how they present their homes.

Top 3 places to cambio:

While there are plenty of smaller towns and cities for you to explore and enjoy in the UK, some of its biggest attractions are in its largest communities, each a fantastic city in their own right for you to have a great homestay in the UK.

Cardiff

Probably one of the more laid back cities in the United Kingdom, Cardiff has picked itself up from being a relative unknown in the world to being a capital of culture in Wales. A thriving city with plenty of cool attractions such as Cardiff Bay which includes nearby many of the city’s best attractions including the imposing but also amazing Millennium Centre, the Doctor Who Experience for all you fans of the show, Roald Dahl Plaza and the Norwegian Church. Back in the city proper we have the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff Castle and plenty of great pubs and clubs for a night out.

Edinburgh

Though a bit smaller than its partner Glasgow, Edinburgh is considered one of the finest cities in the whole of Britain, never mind Scotland. One of the larger cities situated on the British East Coast, the city boasts a host of fantastic festivals and celebrations throughout the year, such as Hogmanay with its street parties and emphasis on celebrating a new guest which is great for a new cambio! The Edinburgh Dungeon is an interesting mix of night out, historical play and comedy sketch, while the Fringe Festival is one of the biggest and most eclectic events of the year celebrating the arts. A more year round attraction is the Camera Obscura-a museum of strange and wonderful science and art installations.

London

Last but not least we have the capital of the UK. London is pricier than its more Northerly counterparts, though it makes up for it with a tremendous amount of variety and things to see and do. Of course you can check out Buckingham Palace and the Royal Family, Big Ben, the London Eye, Madame Tussauds and London Bridge, but also be sure and check out the skyscrapers lining London’s commercial districts, the many massive shopping markets and outlet stores in its bustling streets and also its many historical abbeys, museums and public buildings.

Top 3 Things to do on cambio:

With a great variety in places to visit on one island, you can spend time going from a massive and cosmopolitan city to a small village and eventually onwards into the wilds of Britain.

Tour the greater London area

London City is absolutely huge with several trips being needed to get the most out of it. You have the bustling business districts with their thousands of commuters moving in and out at any one time. The older parts of the city continue to impress with many older pubs and venues for music. Soho is probably one of the more famous entertainment districts in the city and is connected to the famous West End theatre district. The centre of course has many shopping centres and malls for you to peruse and enjoy.

Enjoy the Seaside

Further up the coastline we have some of Britain’s most charming and idyllic cities and towns. Places like Brighton, famous for its Beach, the Mods and Rockers and Fish n’ Chips, Blackpool with rock candy, a great tower and nearby hotels and resorts. Smaller fishing villages and towns line the whole of the coast and each has its own little slice of heaven to offer to new visitors from abroad.

Tour the Lake District

A big region of winding valleys, mountain ranges and, of course, lakes and waterways, the Lake District is considered a favourite of the people of the United Kingdom for their unspoiled beauty and beautiful views. The area also has a wide variety of unique wildlife including the playful Red Squirrel which is rare throughout the rest of the country, wild horses, as well as rare species of birds, fish and reptiles. Travellers can enjoy hiking, driving or paddling through these amazing lands at a pace that suits them best.
